Music Video Analysis: Hot Flash Heat Wave - The Gold Years

Establishing Shot:
This shot shows the main subject of the video playing some sort of woodwind instrument incorporated in the introduction of the song. The figure is shown dominating the frame and is obviously a figure of importance throughout the music video. This exposition is crucial to show the main plotline and theme of the music video.

The use of a tripod still shot of the keyboard being thrown into a basket ball hoop shows the ending of the keyboard introduction and allows room for the other instruments to be established into the music video and draw the focus of the audience.

This shot of the lips singing both the lead vocals and backing vocals signify to the audience the main theme of the song "the golden years" and are used to repeat the chorus back to the audience therefore making it a catchy and memorable section of the music video.
This shot established the villain of the narrative, it is used to show the upcoming conflict shown throughout the video. I like the use of borders in the music video and the disregard for the common and widely accepted format of music video seen throughout many genres.  The imprinting of a separate background behind the aspect ratio allows for a different and aesthetically pleasing approach to the otherwise limitations of the format.
